“I’m always drawn to objects that feel collected rather than overly designed, especially when they bring a bit of whimsy to something utilitarian. Living on the West Coast, I love anything that looks as though it could have been discovered in a tidal pool, and I’ve long cherished a large barnacle my dad found years ago. Shelton Metal’s hand-carved and cast spreaders have that same strange, artifact-like quality. I’d bring them out while hosting, but they’re the kind of objects I’d happily leave on the table afterward.”

After years of success with his signature jewelry line, Byrd is expanding his creative reach, introducing a new Home Collection that reflects the same meticulous craftsmanship and ocean-inspired aesthetic that has become synonymous with his brand.

Wilmington, NC, jewelry designer Colby Byrd founded his company, Shelton Metal, after spending several months in Italy. He brought back the inspiration and skills needed to design his beautiful organic jewelry that is deeply influenced by the ocean. His jewelry was recently showcased at the Spring Milano Fashion Week as part of Italian fashion designer Sabato Russo's collection. We caught up with Colby to learn more about the man behind the designs.
